I would like to introduce you to the first five @havasole4success participants - Emily, Jeckson, John, Jehiem and K’Wan. Hav A Sole for Success is a paid program that will cover everything from higher education to job readiness all while learning the ins and outs of #havAsole. We will explore entrepreneurial and strategic thinking, team building and resumé work shops, social media and marketing, financial literacy and much more. Extremely excited for the next phase of Hav A Sole!
Today we dropped off a special pair to our friend at the Covenant House. He’s going to customize his new forces by painting Black Lives Matter on them - can’t wait to see how they turn out!
In our process of spreading love we were asked by a woman “what’s going on here?” “Providing comfort to essential workers during this time.” I replied. “Those shoes better not be looted or stolen.” I simply responded - “they’re not.” She leaves - 911 was called and they showed up right after the event. All is well - we didn’t have to engage the police. #havAsole
We need justice. We need equality.
What’s the difference? You won’t be able to find one. What you see here is two men on the same mission to pour as much love as humanly possible into a cold hate filled world. 2020 has been devastating to the spirit - blow after blow it’s nearly impossible to stand so we had to take a seat for a second. A deep breath for a world that can’t breathe. Now it’s time to stand for black lives because when they matter we will all matter. #havAsole
Here’s how I feel - I wake up to the city of Minneapolis burning down and being looted and it breaks my heart. Do you know why? Because I don’t feel like the people are wrong for it. This is an odd way to feel. We’re supposed to do things “by the book” but when that book isn’t meant for everyone it needs to be thrown away. Now let’s call it exactly what it is - they murdered George Floyd. The Black and Brown communities are being put under so much pressure for simply being Black and Brown. That fucking pains me to say - anyway, to the people - please stay safe out there and make it home to your loved ones but do what you gotta do.
*BIG ANNOUNCEMENT* - when @havasole4success opens, I am going to commit to getting my GED with the first round of students that we hire.
*BIG ANNOUNCEMENT* - We are launching a new program called @havasole4success | a $15/hour paid internship for local incoming high school seniors. This program will include mentorship, resumé building and workshops, community capacity building, budgeting, marketing and branding, video and photo production along with many other life skills. Our pilot program has been funded by the Herbert Simon Family Foundation. Thank you Steve for always believing in our mission!
Did you know that #havAsole started in July 2014? It started with my collection of 150 pairs of sneakers. Loaded them into my Ford Explorer and drove around giving them away. Collected different sizes because everyone doesn’t wear a 10.5. Now, we’ve given almost 24,000 pairs all over the U.S. We turned a passion project into a business. I feel very fortunate and extremely grateful for the love and support throughout the last six years. Thank you. Stay safe.

A quick story about this shirt - we went to the first Laker game after Kobe passed. This shirt was given to everyone in attendance. I took it with me on our 8th #havAsole road trip. We ended up at the @acesbasketball game and after an amazing win, the entire Varsity Team signed it for me. Our #EIGHTfor8 tribute will be out soon.

Today makes week 3 of our #havAsole Stay Home & Stay Active campaign. Today we dropped off some fresh pairs to the kids over at the @wattsskillsacademy. We are running low on youth sizes and unfortunately can’t take incoming sneaker donations right now but we will find a way to connect with the youth. Stay safe out there.
